The Vassar Theatre opened December 28, 1937 with the film "Stella Dallas" starring Barbara Stanwyck.
The Theatre was built by Vassar brothers Howard and Stanley Smith at a cost of $50,000. Early advertising referred to it as "Theatre Beautiful" and "The Jewel of the Thumb".
